SIZE OF A POLAR BEAR

  • Male polar bears (boars) grow two to three times the size of females (sows).

  • Boars approximate length: 2.5 to 3 metres, or 8 to 10 feet.

  • Boars approximate weight: Over 800 Kilograms or 1,750 pounds.

  • Sows approximate length: 1.8 to 2.5 metres, or 6 to 8.2 feet.

  • Sows approximate weight: 150 to 250 kilograms, or 331-551 pounds. (Expectant sows can weigh as much as 500 kilograms or 1,102 pounds).

    Although polar bears reach such an enormous size and impressive weight, they are almost catlike in their agility, they can run up to 25 miles per hour (40 kph) on the ice for short distances.
